Locomotive Cab Rides


We're one of the few museums to offer cab rides in our historic locomotives. We try to make this unique experience available whenever possible, but equipment availability and personnel are a limiting factor. For these reasons, the availability of cab rides is only determined on the day of.

If you desire a cab ride, please pay close attention to the proper attire guidelines below:

  • Cab riders must remain seated at all times. Seating availability is dependent on the locomotive being used:

    • New Haven #0673 (ALCO RS-1, built 1948) - two seats, or two sitting and one in lap

    • Pfizer #1 (EMD SW-8, built 1953) - two seats, or two sitting and one in lap

    • Electric Boat Diane (GE 44-Tonner, built 1947) - one seat, or one sitting and one in lap

    • B&M #1127 (EMD SW-1, built 1953) - two seats

  • Must be at least 18 years of age if riding alone, or a minimum of 13 years of age if accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.

  • A signed liability waiver (Cab Ride Release) will be required prior to the cab ride, and will be provided to you at the Front Desk.

  • All cab riders must be able to stand, walk, sit, and climb stairs without assistance and without the aid of any assistive device.

  • Use of cameras of any type for photography or videography is prohibited while the train is moving.

  • Mobile phones must be "off" or in "airplane mode."

  • No self-contained breathing equipment (oxygen) or service dogs allowed.

  • All riders must wear proper clothing (shorts, skirts, and tank tops not permitted.) Full length slacks or jeans are required.

  • No open-toed shoes (sandals, flip flops, etc.) or high heels are permitted.

  • Cab rides are at the total discretion of the engineer.

  • Cab rides are booked on the day of operation, first come, first served.
